规格为35X18X3.5厘米。正面边有花纹,砖面色泽黑褐,内质香气纯正,滋味纯正,滋味浓厚微涩,汤色红黄,叶底老嫩匀称,每片花砖净重2公斤。用棍锤筑制在长形筒的篾篓中,筑造成圆柱形,高147厘米,直径20厘米,做工精细,品质优良。历史上最盛时期的年产量达到过3万多支<即卷>。
【起源】
“花砖”的名称由来,一是由卷形改砖形,二是砖面四边有花纹,以示与其它砖茶的区别,故名“花砖”。

过去交通困难,茶叶运输不便,这圆柱形的花卷茶形如“树干”,倒便于捆在牲口背的两边驮运。但在零售与饮用时,要用钢锯锯成片。这样做,既不方便,茶未又易损失,造成浪费。另外,在筑造过程中,花工多,成本高,劳动强度大,制作不易。如此落后的生产方式,不仅生产者要求改革,消费者也要求改革。1958年安化沙溪茶厂适应形势发展的需要,经过多次试验,将于将“花卷”改制成为长方形砖茶。
花砖外形虽然与花卷不同,但内质基本接近,成为黑茶类的新品种,代替了历史上的花茶,受到了销区的赞赏与欢迎。
【制作】
花砖茶的制造工艺与黑砖茶基本相同。花砖茶原料,过去分洒面茶与包心茶,压制进把差的茶叶压在里面,较好的茶叶压在外面。60年代中后期,1958年,白沙溪茶厂再次进行工艺改革,在提高面茶和茶质量的同时,不分面茶和里茶,进行混合压制。压制花砖的同时,不分面茶和里茶,进行混合压制。压制花砖的原料成份,大部分三级黑毛茶及少量降档的二级黑毛茶。总含梗量不超过15%。毛茶进厂后,要经筛分.破碎.拼堆等工序,制成合格的半成品,以后进行蒸压.烘焙.包装等,工艺与黑砖茶相同。
